History

Several Timber Associations were operating throughout New Zealand following the war years, and the Auckland Timber Merchants Association began its early life in August 1942. It changed its name to the Auckland Timber Association on 27 June 1983, and became the Northern Timber Association in March 1994.

In November 2014, due to diminishing membership numbers and a regulatory environment that made it difficult to provide the same level of services to members, the Executive decided to consider an alternative future for the Association. The idea was raised of forming a Charitable Trust to enable us to continue to make meaningful contributions to the industry.

As the Executive pursued this course of action, it became legally necessary to wind up the Association in its then form. A Special General Meeting was called, at which the voluntary winding-up was approved.

The process of creating the Northern Timber Association Charitable Trust began, culminating in formal registration as a charity in January 2016.
