History
Several Timber Associations were operating throughout New Zealand following the war years, and the Auckland Timber Merchants Association began its early life in August 1942. It changed its name to the Auckland Timber Association on 27 June 1983 and duly became the Northern Timber Association in March 1994.
Due to diminishing membership numbers and a regulatory inability to provide the services they once had, in November 2014 the Executive decided it to be timely to consider an alternative future for the Association and the idea was raised of forming a Charitable Trust to enable them to continue to make meaningful contributions to the industry going forward.
As the Executive pursued this course of action it became legally necessary to wind up the Association in its then form, and a Special General Meeting was called at which the voluntary winding up was approved.
The process of creating the Northern Timber Association Charitable Trust so began and duly culminated in formal registration as a charity in January 2016.
